Here are a few frequently asked questions and answers:
How do I get ahold of you?
The best way to get a hold of me is email: [email protected]. Please let me know ALL details (eg. size, material, font, etc.) for your project.
I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Turnaround time?
For individual custom projects is usually about one week. Production orders should estimate 8-10 business days depending on availability/quantity.
My workload varies around seasonally, so please try to get your projects submitted ASAP... some days I literally have a thousand things to do. It's no fun having to turn people away (especially right before the holidays), but I prefer to do my orders in the order in which they are received. I'm just one guy here trying to operate all these machines efficiently.
Can I have this done by tomorrow?
I prefer to do my orders in the order in which they are received. Sometimes when I have 60-80 hours of work lined up; your $15 fantasy football trophy will have to wait a few extra days. Sorry, but if you need it done this week you should have brought it to me last week.
Can you engrave this?
I work with all different kinds of materials... various metals, glassware, wood, leather, metals, stone, etc. Some things I cannot engrave include plastic, vinyl, PVC, inside of rings and spherical shaped items, etc.
My clients bring in personal items for me to engrave, although I do have items for sale in the shop. Some items I sell include leather wallets, insulated tumblers, water bottles, travel mugs, coozies, pocket knives, keychains, plaques, trophies, awards, coasters, name tags, dog tags, cedar shoe trees, decals, etc.
What does it cost?
Generally, the cost for setting up and engraving small, individual items is around $25-$30. Any engraving larger than 3x3" inches go up in cost by roughly $2 per square inch of engraving depending on the item/material. This is just a general idea and prices vary depending on size, material, quantity and any additional design time if necessary.
Discounts apply to bulk orders. I have items like tumblers, water bottles, wallets, travel mugs, coozies, knives, keychains, dog tags, plaques and cedar Shoetrees available in bulk. You are also welcome to bring in your own items to engrave. (check below for restrictions)
What kind of file should I send to you?
I can use jpeg or bitmap images, but for logos, often times vector images are preferrable if available. Vector file types that are compatible with my software include: .dxf, .svg, .cdr, .eps, .pdf, .ai, etc. All text should be converted to objects prior to exporting, or include all the font files used within the vector image. If those are not available, just send a jpeg at the higher resolution available. If you can crop out the background; even better
Please direct your messages to my email address, and I will get back to you in a timely fashion. If you would like to send me a logo or file, please include it in your email. Photos of the items you want to engrave are also helpful:
[email protected]
What are some things you DON'T engrave?
**I do NOT engrave anything PVC, ABS, vinyl, or basically any plastic due to the toxic fumes they would create, and that I don't want to breathe. I WILL NOT engrave copyrighted logos like professional or collegiate sports teams, comic book characters, etc.
No sandblasting, gravestones, CNC routing, metal cutting, plasma cutting, water jet cutting, or machining are performed in my laser engraving studio. I don't currently have the machinery to do inside ring engraving or other fine jewelry engraving. I will not engrave anything hazardous, noxious, radioactive, toxic, highly flammable, or other items potentially dangerous to engrave.**
Are you hiring?
No, I am not actively seeking employees, although if the right person came along, I may be willing to hire somebody for one or two days a week. Graphic design knowledge is a plus (specifically familiarity with CorelDraw). Duties would include packing and unpacking boxes, running production jobs on the machines, cleaning, organizing, and occasionally designing mockups for engraving projects. Also would be willing to hire somebody for mechanical/restoration work on a few of my old cars, but that doesn't have a lot to do with laser engraving. Anyways, please inquire or drop of your resume in person if interested.
